Hatch Chile Kickers defeat El Paso Santos 2-1

2/20/2012- The Hatch Chili Kickers and El Paso Santos played the first ever Pecos Soccer League in Hatch New Mexico on February 19th, 2012. Somehow the heavy underdog Hatch Chili Kickers managed to escape with a 2-1 win. Andres Estrada scored the first ever goal in the Pecos Soccer League. Then all Hatch offensive hopes rested on Landon Fowler. Fowler was called offsides four plays in a row but finally broke free and didn't miss tying the game at 1. Immediately in the second half Hatch scored again. However, Hatch took advantage of two El Paso mishandles that resulted in goals. Almost the entire game was played in the Hatch defensive end. Hatch rarely crossed the center line. There were several rough incidents where the younger faster El Paso Santos Team had some players knocked down. The game had quality refs and will be a learning experience for both teams. Hatch Valley ISD did a great job with their facility with Red paint on the dead winter grass the field looked and played well. Both teams are back in action next week with El Paso hosting Roswell on Saturday and Hatch hosting Alamogordo on Sunday. The crowd was very thin in Hatch and will improve now that the team has arrived and played its first game.
